The purpose of this notice is to tell you how MAGIC will process your personal data. By registering
with MAGIC, we will process your personal
data for the purposes and in the manner set out in this notice and for other legitimate purposes connected
with MAGIC. This
notice also tells you which third parties MAGIC may share your personal data with.
Please note, this notice covers the processing of data by MAGIC only, please see your institution's
Student Privacy Policy for further information on how they process your data.
This notice may be updated from time to time to ensure continued compliance with current legislation
and to reflect best practice.
What information is being collected about me?
The type of personal data MAGIC may process about you includes, but is not limited to:
- Your name and your student number
- Any student photograph (this is optional)
- Your email address (institutional or personal, given on registration)
- Your attendance at MAGIC lectures
- Incidental video/audio capture whilst in MAGIC lectures
How information is collected
MAGIC collects your personal data from the following sources:
- Limited information submitted upon registration from your institution
- Any data you may provide directly or indirectly as a result of your attendance at a lecture
or submission of work (such as exams/assessments)
- Each time you connect to a MAGIC Platform, our security applications and infrastructure
create logs to protect your data and alert our IT and the
Data Protection Officer of any threats to data and system security.
How will my personal data be used?
These are some of the ways we will use your personal data; this is not exhaustive but is intended to
provide you with an idea of the things that we may need to do throughout your programme of study.
- The administration and delivery of any MAGIC course you register for including the delivery
of teaching, administration of exams and the issue of your
results
- We collect and hold data about your attendance
- We may use personal data to investigate appeals or complaints
- We use data collected during your connections to the network to protect equipment and the
security of our network and data held within.
- Whilst you are a MAGIC student you can expect to receive notifications from MAGIC Forums but
you can choose to mute these notifications via your My MAGIC page.
This processing is necessary for the:
- performance
of the contract in place between you and MAGIC for the administration and
delivery of your studies
- MAGIC's compliance with our legal obligations
- security of the MAGIC network and to protect data
Third parties that personal data may be shared with
- MAGIC will share data between the partnership Universities to facilitate your
learning
- Online lectures and events may be recorded, as these are made accessible to you they are also
made accessible to other MAGIC Students.
- Information relating to your engagement may be disclosed to your University, in these
instances the data will be processed only in line with their Student Privacy Policy, which will have
been made available to you prior/during registration.
What happens when I end my MAGIC registration?
Once you have completed your MAGIC courses MAGIC will retain
a certain amount of personal data which will form part of
the MAGIC student records archive. These data are retained for a maximum of 5 years
from the 1st October following of the last MAGIC course for which you were
registered.
What are my rights with regards to accessing my personal data?
You have a number of rights in relation to your personal data.
What can I do if I am unhappy with the way my data is
handled?
MAGIC will endeavour to be transparent about its processing of your personal data. However, should you
have any queries about the processing of your personal data, please contact the MAGIC Project Coordinator in
